The Portland Gas Trust

Portland Gas Storage Ltd (Portland Gas) believes in supporting local communities with projects that increase public understanding of geology and benefit education and the environment. In Dorset the Company set up the Portland Gas Trust (the Trust), based on the Isle of Portland, to work with projects across the county.
Aims and Objectives
A £1.5m project to transform the Old Engine Shed on Portland into an interpretation centre will be the highlight of the Trust’s work over the next few years. Situated on the cliffs above Portland Gas’ Dorset facility, the centre will have an audio visual room, display areas and café. The Engine Shed will function as a visitor attraction and an educational resource.
Thank you Awards for All !
Big Lottery Fund    As our previous Awards for All grant went so well we were invited to reapply to continue with the project. In May we were awarded £5,500 to do more walling, environmental improvements and to continue the responsible dog owner campaign. This will enable us to cover a much wider area around the engine shed. We intend to do the front wall to the right of the engine shed which is a big project but we know it can be done from our previous volunteering efforts.

The Trust was very pleased to link with a local group call PLOP (Portland Locals opposed to Poo!) who are working to hi-light the issues and dangers of dog mess. Their march in June was well received by locals and they gave out our leaflets and poo bags. We funded the T shirts, stencils and signs, all of which had the logo of the Trust and Awards for All.
